Tim Whitehead Releases Statement

ORONO - On Tuesday, the University of Maine announced it would buy out the last year of Coach Tim Whitehead's contract. Read the full text of Whitehead's statement below:
BANGOR - The University of Maine System administration has officially filed a complaint with the Maine Labor Relations Board against Associated Faculty at the University of Maine union members.

Legislative action

The Maine House today voted against two measures that were intendd to make the roadways more safe.

They shot down a bill that would require the mandatory use of helmets by motorcycle riders. They also voted against a bill that would've banned the use of handheld cell phones while driving.

Meanwhile, the house gave final approval to a bill that would raise the mininum wage to nine dollars an hour.

University of Maine Fires Tim Whitehead

ORONO - A press release from the University of Maine reads as follows:
 

University of Maine President Paul Ferguson has announced that the University will buy out the last year of Coach Tim Whitehead's contract, ending his appointment as head coach after 11 seasons. This announcement follows several weeks of intense discussions with constituents of the University of Maine Men's Ice Hockey Program that included current and former players, coaches, fans, donors, faculty, university administrators and Coach Whitehead. This action is effective April 9, 2013.

Bangor - Two brothers were arrested by Bangor Police yesterday, after being accused of attacking some relatives at a Smith Street home.

Homeless Man Dead In Tent Fire

PORTLAND -  A homeless man is dead after his tent caught fire in Portland.
