COLUMBIA FALLS — Many people participated in Wreaths Across America’s 3rd Annual Stem and Stone Race Saturday in Columbia Falls.
According to a press release from the organization’s leaders, the race was held on the tip lands of Maine where balsam is grown and harvested each year to make wreaths placed on the headstones of veterans for Wreaths Across America Day in December.
The release says the purpose of the race is to bring awareness to Wreath’s Across America’s mission to remember, honor and teach about America’s veterans and their efforts to preserve freedom.
“This is such a great way to stay active, be healthy, and get involved in the community and do something meaningful for people who have done so much for us,” said Wreaths Across America Executive Director Karen Worcester. “We hope to continue this momentum, and encourage everyone who couldn’t be here today to use one of our two remaining virtual options to run, get involved, and help share the mission to remember, honor, teach.”
According to the press release, each registration sponsors a fresh balsam veteran’s wreath.
