BANGOR – A new nonprofit group in the Bangor area focused on addressing homelessness is conducting a community cleanup.
Dignity First President Jamie Beck said the group hopes this will do more than just remove trash and debris.
“We’re doing a community cleanup on the back part of Mount Pleasant Cemetery, where there is quite a bit of remnants left over of life lived outside. The point of the community cleanup is to bring more awareness around the issue of homelessness in the Bangor area as well as to start bridging some gaps between the housed community and the homeless community,” Beck said.
The event is co-sponsored by Greater Bangor Area Street Pastors.
It starts with a free lunch at 11 a.m., followed by the cleanup.
Casella Waste Management has donated the use of a trash container and several local businesses are donating food for the luncheon.
The cemetery is located on Ohio Street next to Interstate 95.
People are asked to RSVP on the group’s Facebook page, emailing [email protected] or by calling 331-4489.
