DOVER-FOXCROFT — If you have a sweet tooth, there is a new bakery in town to satisfy your needs.
Vail’s Custom Cakes in Dover-Foxcroft opened its door just days ago.
Owner Charles Vail said that he “learned a lot and pulled it off. We decided the last week of February that my daughter-in-law is a fantastic baker and the bakery here in town was closing.”
Iris Oskardottir is a professionally trained Baker from Iceland. She said she has over 10 years of experience in the culinary industry. She said that opening a bakery in Dover-Foxcroft is a really good experience.
Oskarsottir said that Vail’s Custom Cakes will offer some Icelandic favorites, “we are offering a few items that are Icelandic specialties, we have an Icelandic donut, Icelandic cinnamon rolls and meat twists which are a staple in every Icelandic bakery wherever you go.”
“It’s been quite the journey because it happened all very fast I didn’t expect this was going to happen at all so it has been very exciting and stressful of course, trying to get everything together,” Oskardottir said.
Charles Vail said that Iris Oskarsdottir was the inspiration behind this family-operated bakery.
“Iris makes incredible world-class cakes, she is an incredible artist, and when she decorates cakes and custom orders is what we do,” said Vail.
Right now, the bakery is welcoming customers from across the state to try a taste of Iceland right here in Maine.
