NATIONWIDE — The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention published new data showing there are 10 times more people diagnosed with Lyme disease than previously reported.
According to a joint statement issued by Maine Sen. Susan Collins and Minnesota Sen. Tina Smith, the new statistics show an estimated 476,000 people are treated for Lyme disease, which is about 10 times greater than the 48,000 cases of Lyme disease reported nationally in 2018.
The CDC started reporting Lyme disease numbers in 1991. According to the CDC, Lyme disease is the most common disease transmitted by ticks.
