ELLSWORTH — An Ellsworth-based company that focuses on the growth and development of startups and small businesses graduated its first startup company Thursday.
The Genotyping Center of America was the first company to graduate from the Union River Center’s business incubator program.
The center provides genetic testing for research laboratory animals.
CEO Michael Greene said they started the business by ordering a piece of equipment from eBay and now have a business office in Ellsworth and laboratory space in Waterville, thanks to help from the Union River Center.
“One of the key missions behind what GTCA does is that we like to support life science research, which ultimately goes to benefit us all, and it’s been a privilege to be able to be involved with GTCA, but also to see the community come around and support the business as we work toward supporting that research,” Greene said.
The Union River Center’s business incubator program provides startup biotechnology businesses and entrepreneurs with a workspace, community lab, access to an entrepreneurial network, and other services looking to grow.
Greene said he would recommend the program to any startup looking to take the next step in their business.
