STATEWIDE — The University of Maine System will require weekly COVID-19 testing for all on-campus students and employees.
UMS has partnered with Shield T3, which will be providing the tests. They have the ability to test approximately 16,000 people a week.
University of Maine System Chancellor Dannel Malloy said the increased testing is due to rising COVID-19 cases.
“In Maine [it] is far, far higher today than it was in August when we began the last semester, and in the nation and even higher in the other states where many of our students come from,” he said.
Saliva-based PCR tests reduce wait times for test results to 24 hours or less.
The results of the tests will be reported on a weekly basis.
