ORONO – Students in the University of Maine’s outdoor leadership program are helping kindergarten to twelfth grade educators.
Lecturer Lauren Jacobs said her students were tasked with designing a curriculum website for teachers to use as a resource for physical education or outdoor learning.
She said it took on a special meaning this year as more teachers are trying to do outdoor activities with their students.
“They thought about activities and skills that could be practiced with students spread apart so social distancing and even things that could be practiced by students if they were home because of remote learning what could they do with very little equipment or no equipment right in their own backyards,” Jacobs said.
Jacobs said this was designed specifically with Maine schools in mind, but it can be accessed and used by anyone.
She said they plan to keep building upon this and hopes it will continue to be used even after the pandemic.
