ORONO — The University of Maine in Orono has placed 15 students under quarantine due to COVID-19.
One of those is first year student Emily, from the Portland region. After her roommate tested positive she did, too, but she’s asymptomatic so she’s not showing any signs she has the virus.
Wednesday was Day 4 of isolation for her.
“I just miss being around people. I miss the sun. I miss being outside, my dog, my friends,” she said.
She said it was a difficult conversation telling her parents she was in isolation and would miss Thanksgiving.
“It was a little scary at first. They were … they were worried about me coming home Thanksgiving break. I mean, it made sense but they were nice about it they said you could do what you want. They said you could come home and try to make that work. But I didn’t want to do that,” she said.
Emily said she’d like to see more people taking the virus seriously. She said it’s real.
