STATEWIDE (WGME) — For the second year in a row, the Trek Across Maine will be held virtually.
The annual bike ride is the American Lung Association’s biggest fundraiser.
The ride, which runs from western Maine to the midcoast, was originally scheduled for June 18-20.
This year, participants will cycle 60, 120 or 180 miles at their own pace before June 30.
Trek Across Maine officials said they are raising money for two important causes that are relevant today.
“The money raised by the Trek Across Maine is supporting COVID-19 research, which is obviously relevent to everyone in the world right now along with other lung diseases that we’re trying to prevent in the future, so having people come out and join us as part of this virtual experience is more important than ever because of what’s happening in the world,” said Kim Chamard, the Maine trek’s senior manager of development.
Last year’s virtual event raised more than half a million dollars for the American Lung Association.
