STATEWIDE – The storm that dropped rain, snow and ice on the state during the past couple of days also knocked out power to thousands of customers.
According to information on the power companies’ web sites, most of the power outages were in coastal areas.
By mid-afternoon Friday, Emera Maine reported a little more than 2,000 customers without power, with the Blue Hill region suffering the most.
Emera’s web site estimated most of the customers would have power restored by late afternoon Friday.
“We do plan on having extra crews on standby throughout our service territory, particularly in areas where we expect ice to be a factor,” said Emera spokesperson Judy Long. “We expect ice to be a factor in greater Bangor as well as Hancock and Washington counties.”
A little more than 4,000 Central Maine Power company customers lost power Friday.
Nearly 1,700 of those customers were located in Knox County.
