BANGOR — A street ministry known as Jericho Road works to support Bangor’s homeless.
The ministry has been working in the area for 15 years, but President Mel Coombs said they’ve been operating under the radar for a long time. Volunteer Jeff Thoms gives out sandwiches and lets the folks on the streets know the team is there to help.
The trailer stands in front of the Bangor Waterfront every Monday starting at 4:30 p.m., giving out clothes and food to those in need.
“Monday through Friday I go out around town I just meet the people in the streets finding that there are groups of 10 to 15 usually in different areas. Obviously, people in the town don’t like the mess but the people need the stuff,” said Thoms.
Coombs said they just want to give a helping hand.
During the winter months, Jericho Road heads inside and uses Brick Street Church on Union Street in Bangor as shelter from the cold winter months.
