AUGUSTA — The Maine Center for Disease Control said Thursday that 318 new cases of COVID-19 have been detected across the state and that two more Mainers have died after contracting the illness, bringing the statewide death toll to 793.
The new cases bring the total since March of last year to at least 63,175.
According to state health officials, both of the people whose deaths were reported Thursday were women. One was from Cumberland County, while the other was from Oxford County. One was in her 60s and the other was in her 80s.
The latest Maine CDC COVID-19 statistics also indicate a total of 1,887 Mainers have required hospitalization to treat the virus since March of last year.
As of Thursday, 129 people were hospitalized for COVID-19. Forty-nine of them were being treated in intensive care units, while 23 people were on ventilators.
As of Wednesday, 1,203,770 COVID-19 vaccines had been administered around the state. Of those, 647,474 were first doses, and 556,296 were final doses, the Maine CDC said.
