BANGOR – In 2016, a drug overdose killed Travis Kelleher. Since then, his dad Peter Kelleher has devoted his life to feeding homeless people throughout New England.
Known as the “Soup Man,” Kelleher also provides clothing and personal cleaning products to members of the homeless population.
For a long time, Kelleher has talked about installing portable showers at various locations.
Tuesday, he oversaw the installation of just such a shower in Bangor.
“They’ll come in. They’ll take a shower. They’ll walk away with toiletries and clean clothes, new socks, underwear, essentials that so many people take for granted,” Kelleher said.
Kelleher said he already has installed a portable shower in Brockton, Massachusetts. His goal is to install one in every major city in New England.
The Bangor shower is located outside the Brick Church at the corner of Union and Main Streets.
