EAST MILLINOCKET — The East Millinocket Police Department made several drug-related arrests on Saturday, according to a Facebook post by the department.
Kenneth Kunkel, 62, of Millinocket was arrested and taken to the Aroostook County Jail and is currently on bail for drug trafficking.
Police said Kunkel tested positive for illegal drugs when an officer went to his residence to conduct a bail search at about 12:30 p.m. Officers then learned that he had a Class A felony warrant for his arrest for violation of bail related to trafficking in scheduled drugs.
During a traffic stop in Medway at about 2:30 p.m., a K-9 alerted to the smell of illegal drugs, so a search was conducted. Police say several items of drug paraphernalia and counterfeit U.S. Currency were found. 31-year-old Traci Duprey-French of Mattawamkeag, a passenger in the car, had several active warrants for her arrests. She was brought to the Aroostook County Jail, where she was found to be concealing illegal drugs.
Later on, at about 8 p.m., another traffic stop in East Millinocket led to a K-9 sniffing out illegal drugs.
After searching the car, police found several items of drug paraphernalia, cocaine, and benzylfentanyl. Ashlie Ferguson, 35, of Millinocket was charged with unlawful possession of schedule with drugs.
Passenger Philip Powers, 40, of Medway was arrested on pending charges from an investigation after suspected methamphetamine was found at a Medway convenience store.
During a traffic stop in Millinocket at about 8:30 p.m., 29-year-old Nicholas Tanous of East Millinocket was charged with two counts of unlawful possession of scheduled drugs. This was after a K-9 also smelled illegal drugs in the car. Officers found cocaine and fentanyl after a search.
According to the Facebook post, U.S. Border Patrol agents assisted at all of the incidents.
