BANGOR – Sen. Angus King hosted a panel discussion Thursday on how to lower the cost of healthcare coverage and prescription drugs.
Local healthcare providers and community leaders attended the talk at Bangor Savings Bank.
King said half of the diseases in America are preventable.
“The cheapest medical procedure is the one that doesn’t happen. We’ve got experts from around the country, we’ve got experts from here in Maine and what I want out of this is some concrete ideas that can lower healthcare costs,” he said.
One of the experts on the panel said the life expectancy in the United States has declined the last three years in a row.
Topics included effective prevention strategies and policies for families and children as well as in the aging community.
