SEARSPORT – A 54-year-old Searsport man died Friday morning after being crushed by a mobile home.
Searsport Police Detective Chris McCrillis says first responders were called to 16 Pond Road just after 9 a.m.
Danny McFarlin was pronounced dead at the scene.
“He was working underneath the trailer attempting to establish some bracing and working on the cribbing to get the trailer elevated and upon doing so, the trailer shifted and ultimately, the trailer collapsed on top of him and he succumbed to the event,” said McCrillis.
The victim’s brother and father were helping him move the mobile home when the accident happened.
Dale McFarlin says they had to move the trailer because they could not afford the lease on the lot any longer.
Dale says Danny McFarlin was a former marine who touched the lives of many people.
“Good man,” Dale McFarlin said of his brother.
“I mean, you wait. When you see his funeral it ain’t going to be a …,” Dale said, before taking a deep breath.
“Pretty much, he would do anything for anybody, you know I mean? He was not the type of person that you would even have to thank. You know, he just did it because he liked doing it,” Dale said.
Dale says Danny leaves behind his wife of more than 40 years.
“Bad things happen to good people. We don’t know why, it just does,” Dale said.
“He’s going to be missed.”
