BANGOR — The American Red Cross is in need of blood donations.
According to Caroline King, the executive director of the American Red Cross for northern and eastern Maine, there’s a nationwide shortage of blood.
She said there’s been an increase in demand as hospitals do more procedures following the pandemic.
King also said it’s always difficult to get folks to donate during the summer.
“Blood’s a product that you can’t make, you can’t manufacture, you can’t get from anywhere else but another person, so it really is an incredible gift, so if folks can give that gift, it can save someone’s life,” King said.
King said you can call 1-800 Red Cross, go to redcrossblood.org or download their blood donor app to schedule an appointment.
She said if you’re not eligible to donate, the Red Cross encourages you to volunteer.
