BELFAST — Nordic Aquafarms recently was granted the last of the permits they needed from the Department of Environmental Protection.
This brings them one step closer to building a land-based fish farm in Belfast.
Proposals from the company show that they plan to produce 33 metric tons of salmon annually.
Edward Cotter, a senior vice president of the company, said they’re still waiting on a few more permits.
“What we are still waiting for is the city planning board is still deliberating on the permits. We do expect that to go on for another couple of weeks. We are also working with the Army Corps,” he said.
Until those come through, construction on the site cannot begin.
