Poor visibility, road conditions cause multi-vehicle crash

Poor visibility, road conditions cause multi-vehicle crash

PRESQUE ISLE — Route 1 between Presque Isle and Caribou was closed for most of the day Tuesday following a weather-related crash.

The accident took place Tuesday afternoon shortly after 1 p.m., according to Sgt. Chris Hayes of the Presque Isle Police Department.

Blowing and drifting snow in Aroostook County caused treacherous driving conditions and is believed to be the cause of the pileup near the Presque Isle and Caribou line that involved somewhere between 14 and 17 vehicles.

Hayes said the accident scene has been cleared, but Route 1 from Mars Hill to Presque Isle, and on to Caribou, remained closed due to weather conditions.

No injuries were reported from the accident.
