RANGELEY – Two men escaped serious injury Thursday afternoon when the small float plane they were in crashed into Rangeley Lake.
According to Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland, the plane was attempting a water take off near the town landing in Rangeley.
McCausland says the plane got about 50 feet in the air before it crashed, coming to rest upside down.
Officials say both men got out of the plane and swam to shore.
The pilot, 69-year-old David Taisey of Pownal, and his passenger 53-year-old Mike Koob of Oquossoc were treated and released from the local medical center with minor injuries.
The plane, owned by Acadian Seaplanes of Rangeley, was towed to Oquossoc.
State Police and the Maine Warden Service responded to the scene.
The FAA will investigate the cause of the crash.
