DEXTER – The pilot involved in Wednesday’s plane crash in Dexter has died.
A close family friend of 78-year-old Rodney Wright of East Corinth told ABC 7 & FOX 22 he passed away earlier this afternoon.
Wright was taken to the hospital by Life Flight helicopter Wednesday with serious head injuries after the plane he was in flipped over at the Dexter Regional Airport around noon.
Officials told us the aircraft was a World War I replica with an open cockpit.
According to the airport manager, Wright had been making a few runs with the plane, and when it came down, it looked like the wheel struts broke and the aircraft flipped over.
Wright was known as an experienced pilot and had assembled the plane himself.
He was the only one on board when it overturned.
The FAA is looking into the crash.
