ORONO – The police department will be holding a fundraiser for the Special Olympics of Maine.
‘Tip-A-Cop’ will be Friday at Margaritas Restaurant in Orono from 4 p.m. To 8.
Orono Police Captain Daniel Merrill said the department tries to pair the event with a night the University of Maine Men’s hockey team is playing a home game to entice people to come out and support the cause.
Captain Merrill said about a handful of officers from Orono, Bangor, and someone from the Sheriff’s department — will be paired with wait-staff to help raise funds.
“We tell em to tip the servers first because it’s still important, that’s how they’re making their living but if they above and beyond that, if they’d like to make a tip or donations to the Special Olympics of Maine. Everything we make 100 percent goes right back to the Special Olympics next week,” said Captain Merrill.
He said it’s an event the department holds dear to its heart and it’s always a fun time seeing the athletes every year.
