OLD TOWN — The city of Old Town has two open seats on the city council that the town has yet to fill.
The current council normally consists of seven members and only five are returning to the council.
Both Kyle Smart, city council president, and Shirley Brissette, city councilor, decided not to run for re-election.
Due to the lack of candidates this year, the town will hold a write-in election in order to nominate candidates for the openings.
“If people want to have a voice and say in town, then this is an option for them to have a voice,” said City Clerk Laura Engstrom.
“Your complaints will be heard through a broader spectrum and school board as well and this is a way to get your answers and find out what is going on,” she said.
If none of the elected write-in nominees accept the position, the council will proceed with its current five members.
