CASTLE HILL — A Presque Isle man is safe following a fiery crash in Mapleton Monday morning.
Kimar Smith, 34, was driving west on State Road in Mapleton when state police say he lost control of his vehicle, slid into the ditch on the right side of the roadway, struck a culvert, then some trees head on.
Police said Smith got out of the vehicle moments before it burst into flames.
By the time Mapleton firefighters arrived, the vehicle was fully engulfed.
Authorities said Smith, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured. The vehicle was a total loss.
State police said speed and poor weather conditions were factors in the crash.
