BANGOR — Northern Light Health is seeing an increase in young people being hospitalized.
During today’s press briefing, Dr. James Jarvis said people need to follow protocol like they have been doing since the start of the pandemic.
He said although more Mainers are getting their vaccinations, the uptick in hospitalizations is a concern and more young people are coming in with clear symptoms of COVID.
Jarvis said, “It’s just a cause for concern for us particularly as we know that more of the variants are becoming dominant strains now and some of them are more infectious and some of them, unfortunately, cause more severe disease and we want to protect everybody when we are out there.” Jarvis referred to the strains seen in the U.K. but are now present in the U.S.
Jarvis said that with the J&J vaccine being put on hold, staff have been staying extra cautious to ensure everyone who’s received that vaccine is safe.
He said due to the recent announcements a few pop-up clinics have not opened.
The Moderna and Pfizer vaccines will continue to remain in use.
