BANGOR — The city of Bangor is considering rewriting land development codes in an effort to make downtown residential neighborhoods more inviting.
During a meeting of the city’s Business and Economic Development Committee Tuesday, Planning Officer Anne Krieg outlined a proposal that new residential buildings have front doors and porches facing the street instead of away from or to the side of it.
She said the idea is to make downtown residential neighborhoods more walkable and pedestrian-friendly.
“There’s countless studies on this, that as a pedestrian when you’re walking down the street and you hit what’s really a wall that doesn’t have a lot of demonstration or doesn’t have that front porch, people actually do turn around and go the other way,” Krieg said.
She said the proposal would apply only to homes in the downtown section of Bangor.
