STATEWIDE — Maine’s Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife has launched a new online database to help anglers across the state.
The application tool is called Fishing Laws Online Angling Tool, or FLOAT.
It was designed to make it easier for anglers to find their secret fishing spots and to comply with the rules.
The database is accessible online and can be made into an app right on your phone.
“We have a pretty vast database of rules and regulations,” DIFW Communications Director Mark Latti said. “Sometimes looking through the law book it can be a little bit overwhelming. The idea was to put this in an easier use format to put it at peoples’ fingertips.”
Latti said the app has some unique features, such as finding specific places where you can cast your line for “Fly fishing” and “Open water fishing.”
The database can be found on the Maine Department of Fisheries and Wildlife website, with an entire guide on how to make the app accessible with one click.
