BANGOR — A Penobscot County judge on Tuesday sent a New York man to prison for 48 years in connection with a 2017 murder in Maine.
Last October, a jury convicted 40-year-old Carine Reeves of murdering 55-year-old Sally Shaw of New Gloucester in 2017.
Shaw’s body was found was by the side of the road in Cherryfield with a bullet in the head.
“This happens to be one of those cases where the aggravating factors do significantly outweigh the mitigating factors such that a sentence going beyond that base sentence of 40 to 45 does seem to be the appropriate sentence,” Penobscot County Superior Court Judge Harold Stewart said. “So in this case, the court sets the final sentence, max sentence, at 48 years.”
In 2019, Reeves was convicted of assault after cutting the face of a model in Queens, New York.
On Tuesday, the judge said Reeves would serve the sentences at the same time.
