STATEWIDE — Two small Maine businesses are receiving more than $22 million to become more eco-friendly.
The Rural Energy for America Program, better known as REAP, is providing guaranteed loans for a pair of Maine solar farm projects.
According to the acting director for the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development in Maine, the goal is to make energy efficiency improvements and install renewable energy systems.
“One is to Perkins Road, Belfast Solar, for $11.1 million, and the other is to Route 22, China Solar, in the amount of $11.2 million,” said USDA Rural Development spokesman Tommy Higgins.
Higgins said the program benefits Maine citizens, businesses, and the environment.
