BELFAST — A Stockton Springs woman accused of killing her 3-year-old son was arraigned in court Monday.
Jessica Williams, 35, entered a not guilty plea during the hearing in Waldo County Superior Court.
She was arraigned on charges of depraved indifference murder.
Williams was arrested by Maine State Police detectives in connection to the death of her son, Maddox, who died June 20 after being taken to Waldo County General Hospital by his mother and grandmother.
The state medical examiner said Maddox suffered a number of injuries, including multiple bruises to his body, internal bleeding, a fractured spine, and missing teeth.
“The state has to prove the charges against her beyond a reasonable doubt. The fact that DHHS was involved just means we need to consider what they’ve done, as well as what the state police have done,” said Deputy Attorney General Lisa Marchese.
Marchese said Williams will continue to be held in jail on $150,000 cash bail.
She said it could be a while before the case goes to trial.
