STATEWIDE — Gov. Janet Mills announced Friday morning a gradual lifting of some COVID-19 restrictions.
Mills said the capacity limits on indoor gatherings will be increased to 50 percent of capacity beginning March 26, and then lifted to 75 percent of capacity on May 24.
The governor said the limits on outdoor capacity will increase to 50 percent of capacity on March 26 and to 100 percent of capacity on May 24.
Additionally, she said effective immediately travel restrictions will be lifted on residents of Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. Mills said people from those states will no longer have to show a negative COVID-19 test or quarantine.
However, the governor said the mask mandate remains in place.
She said the increased vaccine availability was a critical factor in deciding to change the restrictions. Plus, she said, it was a move she hoped would help the state’s economy.
