FORT KENT — A Blaine man who allegedly stabbed an elderly woman at a Mars Hill grocery store made his first court appearance Friday.
Ramadan Muhammed, 45, who asked to be referred to as Ramadan Sims, is facing charges of aggravated attempted murder, elevated aggravated assault, and reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon.
If he is indicted by a grand jury, his next court date will be at 1 p.m. on Jan. 12 of next year in Presque Isle.
The judge also ordered a Title 15 evaluation for competency.
On Wednesday, the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office received a call from the Mars Hill IGA saying an elderly woman had been stabbed.
Deputies responded and determined Muhammed had stabbed the woman while she was shopping.
The sheriff’s office said the attack was unprovoked and the victim was a random target.
Muhammed was later arrested without incident at his residence and was taken to Aroostook County Jail.
