OLD TOWN — Maine State Police responded to a fatal shooting at a house on Brunswick Street on Saturday afternoon, and on Monday the death was ruled a homicide.
Derek Blyth, 42, was deceased when Old Town Police officers and EMS arrived, according to a press release from Maine State Police. Old Town called in the state police and the medical examiner on Monday ruled his death a homicide.
“Blyth was shot to death in the apartment located at 345 Brunswick Street in Old Town at approximately 1:30 pm, Saturday afternoon,” Katy England, a state police social media coordinator, said in a Monday email. “The shooter has been identified and has been interviewed.”
England adds, “At this time, no charges have been filed. No further updates are expected.”
The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit is investigating the situation surrounding Blyth’s death.
An earlier released statement said state police believe this is an isolated incident, and there are no public safety concerns.
“The investigation will continue to determine the circumstances that lead to the shooting,” England said.
