STATEWIDE — The state has reached a sad milestone in the coronavirus pandemic.
Maine has topped 1,000 deaths from COVID-19 as the Delta variant continues to fill hospital beds across the state.
The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention said Tuesday that the number of deaths since Saturday grew by 18.
There also were more than 630 additional infections.
Gov. Janet Mills used the grim and unwelcome milestone to press for residents to get vaccinated.
Meanwhile, a federal judge will rule soon on a lawsuit seeking to overturn the governor’s vaccine mandate for health care workers.
The judge heard arguments on Monday.
