AUGUSTA — The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention said Wednesday that another 799 cases of COVID-19 have been reported around the state and that five more Mainers have died after contracting the illness, bringing the statewide death toll to 1,088.
The Maine CDC said the new cases pushed the total since March of last year to 96,632.
Due to their high rates of transmission, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is continuing to recommend that people in all of Maine’s 16 counties wear face coverings in public indoor settings.
To date, 2,631 Mainers have been hospitalized due to COVID-19, according to an update posted on the Maine CDC’s website.
Currently, 168 people are being treated for COVID-19 in the hospital, 60 of them in critical care and 29 on ventilators.
So far, 1,781,435 Mainers have received the COVID-19 vaccine. Of those, 837,376 were first doses and 890,172 were final doses.
