AUGUSTA — The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported Friday that another 71 cases of COVID-19 have been reported around the state and that one more Mainer has died after contracting the illness, bringing the number of coronavirus-related deaths in the state to 838.
The new coronavirus cases bring the statewide total since March of last year to 68,057, according to state health officials.
According to the Maine CDC, the person whose death was announced Friday was a man from Androscoggin County who was in his 80s or older.
The latest CDC COVID-19 statistics show 2,031 people have required hospitalization to treat the virus.
As of Friday, 72 people were hospitalized due to COVID-19. Of those, 28 were being cared for in intensive care while 16 people were on ventilators.
As of Thursday, 1,432,900 Mainers had been vaccinated, with 721,270 having received their first dose and 711,630 having had their final dose.
