AUGUSTA — The Maine Center for Disease Control said Wednesday that 500 new cases of COVID-19 cases have been reported across the state and that one more Mainer has died after contracting the illness, bringing the statewide death toll to 768.
The Maine CDC said the new cases bring the total since March of last year to at least 58,465.
According to state health officials, the person whose death was reported Wednesday was a woman in her 70s from Androscoggin County.
The latest Maine CDC COVID-19 statistics also indicate a total of 1,789 Mainers have required hospitalization to treat the virus.
As of Wednesday, 110 people were hospitalized for COVID-19. Thirty-five nine them were being treated in intensive care units, while 15 people were on ventilators.
As of Tuesday, 1,021,199 COVID-19 vaccines had been administered around the state. Of those, 579,496 were first doses, and 441,703 were final doses, the Maine CDC said.
