BREWER – Nearly 150 Maine soldiers may be sent to Africa in 2021.
The Maine National Guard released a statement this week that said Brewer-based B Company, 3rd Battalion, 172nd Infantry Regiment is part of the multi-state 86th Infantry Brigade.
According to the statement, the 86th Brigade will provide approximately 2,500 soldiers to a variety of overseas American military bases.
“All in all, 140 Maine soldiers will deploy as part of the larger 86th combat team brigade. The soldiers will probably deploy early in 2021 and it will most likely be a 12-month deployment,” said Maine National Guard Capt. Carl Lamb.
Lamb said the notification was made this far in advance to allow soldiers to get their personal affairs in order as well as to prepare their families for life without mom or dad.
