STATEWIDE — The 22nd annual State of the Air report card from the American Lung Association gave Maine mixed grades.
According to the report, particle and ozone pollution are two of the most harmful and widespread types of pollution.
Both the Bangor and Portland metro areas were named among the cleanest cities for short-term particle pollutions, but the county-by-county rank card saw little change from last year’s report.
“This year’s report for Maine shows we still have work to do, it’s sort of a mixed bag of messages. There are some bright spots but unfortunately, our grades for our county level haven’t improved,” said Lance Boucher, senior division director of state public policy for the American Lung Association.
Boucher said it’s important for people to be conscious of the air pollution they introduce into their community’s environment.
