AUGUSTA —The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention said Saturday that another 848 cases of COVID-19 have been reported around the state, and 3 more Mainers have died after contracting the illness, bringing the statewide death toll to 1,271.
The Maine CDC said the new cases pushed the total since March of last year to 115,857.
Because of the high rates of coronavirus transmission, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention continues to recommend that people in all of Maine’s 16 counties wear face coverings in public indoor settings due to their high rates of coronavirus transmission.
To date, 3,032 Mainers have been hospitalized due to COVID-19, according to an update posted on the Maine CDC’s website.
As of Saturday, 273 people were being treated for COVID-19 in the hospital. Of those, 74 were in critical care and 35 were on ventilators.
So far, 2,043,478 Mainers have received the COVID-19 vaccine. Of those, 886,256 were first doses, 916,698.
