AUGUSTA — The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention said Saturday that another 587 cases of COVID-19 have been reported around the state and that one more Mainer has died after contracting the illness, bringing the statewide death toll so far to 982.
State health officials said the new cases brought the statewide total since March of last year to 83,909, according to an update posted on the Maine CDC’s website.
Due to their relatively high rates of transmission, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is again recommending that people in all of Maine’s 16 counties wear face coverings in public indoor settings.
To date, 2, 404 Mainers have been hospitalized due to COVID-19.
As of Saturday, 204 people were being treated for COVID-19 in the hospital, 77 of them in critical care and 33 on ventilators.
So far, 1,686,932 COVID-19 vaccines had been administered to Mainers. Of those, 817,749 were first doses and 869,183 were final doses.
