AUGUSTA — The Maine Center for Disease Control said Friday that 1,411 new cases of COVID-19 have been detected across the state and that 18 more deaths were reported in connection with the illness, bringing the statewide death toll so far to 1,644.
The new cases bring the total since March of last year to 159,498. The Maine CDC also reported that there have been 26,001 breakthrough cases as of Jan. 7.
The latest Maine CDC COVID-19 statistics indicate a total of 3,684 Mainers have required hospitalization to treat the virus since March of last year.
As of Friday, 424 people were hospitalized for COVID-19. Of those, 109 were being treated in intensive care units, while 57 people were on ventilators.
As of Thursday, 2,433,769 COVID-19 vaccine doses had been administered around the state. Of those, 943,747 were first doses, 969,245 were final doses, and 520,777 were boosters, the Maine CDC said.
