MACHIAS – A 15-year-old Machias girl has turned a passion of hers into a business.
Grace Moore loves bunnies.
“I have about 20 rabbits,” said Grace. “They’re all very cute.”
The Machias teen says she wanted to make sure her rabbits were getting the best treats.
“I was just kind of disappointed with the rabbit treats in the stores,” said Grace.
A few years ago she started making her own bunny treats, with plants and sticks found Downeast.
“We just dry them, and the bunnies love to chew on them,” Grace said.
Soon, Binkies Bunny Treats was born.
“I wasn’t expecting it to get this big,” Grace said with a smile.
Grace said business is hopping. They’ve sent treats across the country and all over the world, to places like France, Australia — even Saudi Arabia.
“It’s very fun to see the pictures of these people’s rabbits enjoying them all over the world,” said Grace.
Grace takes the time to draw on each package before sending it.
“We had one review where the parents said, ‘Every time we see the box come in the mail, we know exactly who it’s from, the kids get all excited,'” said Aura Moore, Grace’s mom, who also helps with the business.
Not only does the business make money, but it’s something the whole family enjoys.
“One of the best parts is to just spend time with her, go out in nature and pick the herbs and stuff,” said Aura.
Since she started high school, Grace said it’s been tough keeping up with demand, but she plans to stick with it.
