LUBEC – The Washington County town of Lubec will soon be getting more than $19 million in federal funds.
According to a statement from the U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao, the funds will help pay for Lubec’s Safe Harbor Project.
Chao said the project includes constructing a boat launch, a breakwater and wharf.
She said the wharf will allow nearly three dozen boats to be tied up at any one time.
Carol Dennison, the chairperson of the select board, said construction on the Safe Harbor Project is expected to start in the spring of 2021.
The grant was written by Dennison, who praised the assistance from Julie Keene as being critical to securing the grant.
