LUBEC — People in Lubec are reacting with shock after one of their neighbors was found dead in the trunk of a car on Tuesday and another is accused of killing her.
Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said law enforcement went to 69 Jim’s Head Road in Lubec on Monday after they received information about an altercation at the residence.
According to Moss, they found evidence that lead them to believe something suspicious had happened.
Officers began looking for homeowners, 58-year-old Eva Cox and her boyfriend, 65-year-old Paul DeForest.
The investigation led to the discovery of a woman’s body locked in the trunk of a car near the residence on Tuesday.
They believe the victim is Eva Cox. An official identification will be made by the medical examiner.
DeForest was arrested in Virginia, where he is being held on a fugitive from justice warrant.
There is no word yet on when he will be returned to Maine.
Neighbors ABC 7 and Fox 22 spoke with didn’t want to go on camera but said they couldn’t imagine something like this happening.
