BANGOR — Firefighters are not ‘filling the boot’ for the Muscular Dystrophy Association this year due to COVID-19.
However, they are still fundraising virtually.
They typically would’ve raised $12,000 to $13,000 on Black Friday with the ‘Fill the Boot’ fundraiser.
Most of the money they’ve raised this year is from registrations from their annual chili cookoff, which was canceled.
They are still hoping to do a raffle before the end of the year.
“Our donations at this point are at about $1,000, whereas at this point last year, we would’ve been in about the $50,000 range,” Jared Bowden, the MDA fundraising coordinator for the Bangor Professional Firefighters.
Last year they raised about $63,000 which is more than any other department in the region.
