BANGOR — A man-made lift at the local Brookings-Smith funeral home collapsed Wednesday morning and two workers were injured.
According to Bangor police Sgt. Wade Betters, the call came in shortly before 10 a.m.
Assistant Chief Phillip Hamm of the Bangor Fire Department said luckily it was a hoist the workers were in and not your average commercial use elevator that brought the two people down.
There were two workers on the first floor when the hoist fell to the basement — a roughly 6-foot drop, according to Hamm.
“It turned out to be a medical emergency more than anything. When we got there and figured out what the situation was, we knew we didn’t need all the assists that we were originally called for and we left the ambulance crews there to take care of the two patients,” he said.
The two people were taken to a nearby hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries. According to Hamm, one of the people could have broken an ankle.
