BANGOR — A Jonesport man faces decades in prison after pleading guilty to federal wire fraud charges in court Thursday.
According to court records, 34 year-old Donald McMahon embezzled roughly $95,000 from a bank account owned by an estate being probated in Washington County.
The crimes happened from April through October of 2020. McMahon carried out the scheme by obtaining unauthorized access to the estate account, then making several transfers via PayPal to convert the funds for his own use.
McMahon faces up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. It’s unclear when he will be sentenced. Both the FBI and Washington County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case.
