MOUNT DESERT ISLAND — Jackson Laboratory is working with the MDI and Downeast Family YMCAs to build a new addition on the MDI YMCA building.
The addition will serve as a new daycare facility built onto Mount Desert Island’s YMCA to be used by the greater Bar Harbor community.
During Tuesday’s Bar Harbor Town council meeting, John Fitzpatrick, a Jackson lab official, said the project will help increase recruitment and retention of Jackson Lab employees because many of their employees are scrambling for approximate and affordable day care.
“We’ve reached a tentative agreement between all three parties to bring 66 new daycare slots to Bar Harbor on property that’s owned by the inhabitants of the town of Bar Harbor but currently leased directly to the MDI YMCA,” Fitzpatrick said.
He added final details need to still be worked out.
